I began painting about 15 years ago, experimenting with a variety of mediums including acrylics, oils, and watercolour. I began with abstracts, flowers, still life and just generally enjoyed painting as a hobby. I had been a nurse with the NHS at the time and used art for its therapeutic benefits as well as a hobby.

When I retired early after almost 38 years I was able to spend more time painting and experimenting.

However, it wasnt until I decided I wanted to improve my drawing sklls that I discovered my love  of pastel pencils.

The course I undertook pointed me in a new direction,  allowing me to improve my drawing skills and develop my technique  until I could capture the essence and likeness of any subject. 

I also enjoyed workng with charcoal but its a bit messy!

This newfound passion led me to specialise in creating beautiful  pet portraits, using pastels, pan pastels and pastel pencils where I strive to convey the likeness and personality of your beloved pets from your favourite photos. 

As I and my husband have owned cats since we met, I know only  too well that although they may be  very similar to look at , both grey with white markings, their personalities could not be more different!

This applies to all of your pets, each one being unique in personality even if they have the characteric colours and shape oftheir breed.

This is the essence I try to capture in my art. 

In addition to pet portraits, I've recently expanded my repertoire to include wildlife and hope to be adding birds in the future.
